Soroptimist Penang is in the news for raising funds for education. We wish SIP member Yeoh Sue-Lyn tremendous success at the London 2 Brighton Challenge and congratulate SI Penang for this excellent endeavour to support education for girls.

Yeoh Sue-Lyn, an SIP member, will raise funds for the students by taking part in the London 2 Brighton Challenge, an endurance challenge where participants have to complete 100km by walking, jogging or running in 33 hours.
The 33-year-old businesswoman wanted to challenge herself by joining a gruelling event.
“When I learnt of this endurance challenge, which is also widely used by individuals and groups to raise awareness and funds, I saw it as an opportunity to fulfil my personal desire as well as to contribute to the girls.
“It is also a way for me to give back to my former high school,” said Yeoh, who has been practising daily by walking 5km on weekdays and 20km to 30km on weekends.
SIP president Soon Lay Ean said 43 generous donors had pledged RM21,000 since the idea was mooted.
“We received overwhelming response for the fund and we hit our target within two weeks.
“This support will enable the girls to excel in their studies, especially in Science and Mathematics,” she said after handing out the entitlement letters to the recipients at the SIP office in Tanjung Bungah recently.
Soon added that they would receive the aid once Yeoh completes the challenge on May 27 and 28.
Among the recipients were Cheong Zhi Wen and Chiew Yuen Mae, both 19.
“We are grateful for the aid. The tuition classes will help us to do better in Science and Mathematics,” said Chiew.
She added that Yeoh had motivated the girls to contribute more to the society in the future.
Besides the fund, SIP also organises events that provide opportunities for needy children to gain knowledge.
