21st SI Convention KL, 18-21 July 2019
The 21st Soroptimist International Convention in 2019 will be hosted by the Federation of the South West Pacific. SWP Past President Puan Sri Siew Yong Gnanalingam was nominated by SI South West Pacific as the SI International Convention Chair for the SI Convention which will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 18-21 July 2019. We are proud that Malaysia will be the first Asian Country to host an SI Convention since 1938.
Puan Sri Siew Yong received the SI Flag from the outgoing Chair of the 20th SI Convention Emine Erdem in Istanbul in July 2015.
During the convention in Istanbul, the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCeb) sponsored six Malaysian dancers who gave a cultural performance reflective of multiracial and multiethnic Malaysia to the convention participants. MyCeb also sponsored a booth with promotional giveaway gifts such as toy proboscis monkeys, bookmarks and magnets of Malaysia. All Malaysian Soroptimists who attended the convention took turns to man the booth and the response was encouraging with enthusiastic participants asking if they could sign up on the spot.
In May 2016, we had the privilege of receiving SI President Yvonne Simpson and SI President-Elect Mariet Verhoef-Cohen on their visit to Kuala Lumpur to recce the KL Convention Centre and to select the official convention hotel.
We will update on registration information nearer the time but in the meantime, do block the dates 18-21 July 2019 and see you in Kuala Lumpur!
