SICB conducts Personal Safety for children workshop in JB

SICB’s Chai Kee Sehu and Sim Chan conducted a Train the Trainer “Personal Safety for Children” Workshop this weekend in Johor Bahru for eight members from SI Iskandar Puteri and 14 volunteers comprising teachers and the public. The workshop was lively and interactive, involving role-play for the participants.

As a result of the workshop, 22 participants became trainers to implement the YSM InnovateMYCommunity Programme for below 40% income communities. The knowledge and training material were shared with the participants so that they then could run workshops on children’s personal safety, spreading awareness on the Five Golden Rules of Safety, the good and bad touches, empowering children with knowledge to protect themselves from child sexual abuse.

This is the second in a series of Train the Trainer programmes for Inter-Club Skills Transfer and Capacity Building.

SICB President Chai Kee said: “Sharing our 10 year old interactive project and growing strong the Children’s Personal Safety Workshop to empower children with safety knowledge to protect themselves. Here in Johor Bahru it was Soroptimist International Club of Bangsar (SICB) doing a Training of Trainer workshop for 22 participants who would carry on the safety knowledge to the children. Thanks to our sister club SI Iskandar Puteri led by President Nooraini Yasin for making it possible.”
