Walk the Talk From Perlis to Sabah

About Walk The Talk:
The Walk The Talk event started off as a dream of our Federation President, Puan Sri Siew Yong Gnanalingam (2012-2014) thinking of a federation wide campaign that would involve all the members of SISWP from the 13 countries.

She conceptualised a Federation wide Walk The Talk event to advocate “Stop Violence Against Women” in conjunction with the UN Declared 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence from 25th November to 10th December 2012 where Soroptimist Clubs in the Federation can organised their own walk and talk during this period.

Walk the Talk 2012:
Malaysia led the way by organising “From Perlis to Sabah-Walk The Talk –Stop Violence Against Women” whereby 3 Soroptimist International Kota Kinabalu members walked 850kms in 17 days from Perlis to Johor Bahru, flew to Kuching, walk to the city centre, flew to Kota Kinabalu a and ended with a walk to the city centre closing event in 2012.  This event was in collaboration with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development and supported by the Royal Malaysian Police with Body Shop as the main sponsor.

Walk the Talk 2013:
In 2013, Soroptimist International Region of Malaysia organised another Walk The Talk Event with the theme “Zero Tolerance, Zero Violence, Zero Victims” on 1st December 2013 focusing more on the talk than the walk.  We had a symbolic walk of about 2KMs from the parking lot of Securities Commission to the parking area of Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club’s main building followed by a series of talks on Prevention and Safety Tips, Women’s Rights, Cyber Crimes, Crimes Against Women.  Our partner was Amanita, otherwise known as ‘Peace Lady’, which was introduced under a special unit of the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) with the support of Royal Malaysian Police and our main sponsors was Body Shop and Etiqa.
